John's Mom Weighing In

I think I said most of it in my previous entry.  Those of you going off to other places, I wish you well and will visit when I can.  I've been reading through some of your entries and your comments on John's and Joe's journals.  I really thought some of you were more civilized than that.  Your language is hurtful and really very close to nasty.  These guys may work for AOL, but they don't run the train.

I am sure many of you work for other people.  You may not like the decisions those people make, but you are responsible to carry them out.  That's the way it is.

It's time to grow up, kids.  Remember sticks and stones when you were a kid?  Same thing applies to AOL.  Call them names if you will, but you're not going to break them.

There's a lot of you I will miss terribly.  I hope you calm down and come back.  I'll be here waiting if you do.

Blessings,

I refuse to see anyone at any other place! no one is soo wonderful they are worth the hassle of finding elsewhere,I guess my alerts will  go down , without my having to delete  them all! good riddance , yes the banners are irritating, but they don't ruin a journal, my godness it's just a freaking journal, not art.people are so weird!

Penny I volunteered for AOL for many years watched how decisions were made from the group we called INHOUSE.  My AOL bosses were the ones had give us the news of changes and sadly many blamed them for the decisions.

While I don't agree with the banner, especially when we were promised it wouldn't happen to paying AOL members.... after AIM came aboard and we saw their banner running. I really think it was a very bad decision. Am I going to leave AOL no way I've tried other providers.

I haven't been to too many other journals today, other than getting alerts left and right. I think my biggest frustration is just with the whole company in itself and how they spout off in commercials that they listen to their customer's, yet when their customer's tell them things, it at least FEELS like they just don't care. The changing of boards from the GREAT format to html, ugh...so annoying.

I know for me personally, having to pay for aol is enough, and then having these banners is just another annoyance. I don't feel blaming people like John and Joe's going to accomplish things, it's higher than them, I don't know the money people...it's just frustrating when a company wants to put out how they listen to their customer's, yet they show so little reguard for them.

It stinks that people are leaving "nasty" or just not nice messages in John and Joe's guestbook/comments. That's not ok. They don't get to control things.

I've been debating leaving AOL for a couple yrs now, we have dsl so paying for both stinks, but well I'm still here! LOL

I don't agree with the banners but it's not John or Joes' fault. No good calling them names. It's always those out front who take the rap and not the decision makers who hide behind them. Jeannette.

I know it's neither John or Joe who make these decisions, however this entry of John's is very interesting -- http://journals.aol.com/johnmscalzi/bytheway/entries/4057

Blogspot, a free service, doesn't run huge flashing banner ads.

I know it's not Joe or John's fault.  I agree, people should express themselves with civility.  I hope they do work out the technical problems we're having though.  Hugs,
Lisa

I also am seeing folks are very upset about the banners above the journals.  I am not fond of the idea or the reality of them flying on my BLOG.
Despite that, unless the banners are immoral, I don't plan to leave AOL over this.  Unfortunately the economic realities are that AOL has to fight to live, just like we do.  I am sorry that some folks can't understand that and have departed from civility in their remarks.  This decision is made at the top of AOL's food chain, not at the bottom or anywhere in the middle.
Like you, Penny, I am not planning on going anywhere.  I have a friend who left AOL and is journaling somewhere else.  It has been a terrible hassel getting there to read, uphill work all the way.  I don't know how long I'll be able to continue to get there.
loving you

I`m tired of ads everywhere, not just on our journals now. I liked what you said, though - and I agree with you.
God bless,

Penny,

I'm glad you said this.  I am also disappointed to see so many nasty things being said about John and Joe.  I don't blame them, I blame their bosses.  I don't kill the messenger just because I don't like his message.  I wish others wouldn't be so quick to take out their anger -- which I think is justified -- on the wrong people.

I have a sneaking suspicion that if it was up to the two of THEM, the ads would have never appeared to begin with!
