We went to a new church for Easter services yesterday. Our pastor and his family and our family. We enjoyed the service. It' not the same of course, because we are used to our pastor's style of preaching. This guy was just different.
About halfway through the service, I looked up and saw what I though were fairly large earrings on a young man about two rows ahead of us. Strange, I thought that he should have circles on his earlobes. The I looked up again and could see the podium through his right ear! I looked again and sure enough, the earring was inside his ear. So, drifting away from what the pastor up front was saying, I just had to check out his left ear! Again I could see through his earlobe. Goodness! He had pinkie-thick earrings and holes in his lobes. Have I been sheltered? This was a guy!
So tell me . . .is the piercing thing going a bit too far? Am I living in the dark ages? Do that many people have huge holes in their ears?
I'm just wondering . . . .

I`ve seen pictures of African natives with those kind of piercings, but not here in the west. How worrying, I hope it doesn`t catch on here...:-( Sandra xxx
It seems to be the thing to do for this generation.....Gosh I am old since I said that! LOL I recall a year or so reading an article about how the 18-25 range seems to embrace body mutilation (reporter's words not mine) with multiple piercings and multiple tattoos which both are to the point of disfiguring.
My dd #1 put spacers in her ears which make the holes bigger but soon took them out when she was desperately looking for her first job. She did not compromise on the monroe piercing she had on her face because at that age we do know everything. LOL Just recently, 18 mos later, she took her monroe out and states she wishes she hadn't or maybe hadn't had it done because she now has a scar there.....who said that 18 mos ago?!
The funny thing about those piercings....you can't help but stare even if your mama taught you not to stare.

Yep, young people are gauging their ears now. Making the holes bigger as time goes by. Yuck! you know they won't want them when they are old and gray! hope my kids don't decide to like it! Take care. God bless, Beckie

Yup...stretching the earlobes is the thing to do. Along with "scarification". Not to mention "branding"........... OUCH !! Tina
Oh yeah, see them more and more often. I don't mind them, they aren't on, in or around my body, and I keep hoping that my daughter will stay a bit conservative as she heads into young adulthood and beyond. When she had her navel pierced three years ago, I went with her, signed for her and had my hand crushed through the process. I think this may have put her off for any further body decorations. As I reflect on piercings, tattoos and stretchings, I worry about neck rings, lip stretching and the like...and realize that while I'm not really old...I'm really OLD!
I don't like multiple piercings and I hate tongue piercings. My son has one small diamond in his ear and I like it. Know mind you, it is not stretched at all! LOL He is very artsy, so it suits him and is only in one ear. Tongue piercing is dangerous and looks gross to me. My daughter has a belly-button piercing and I always thought they looked kind of, well, too sexy. I wouldn't do it. I like some tattoos on guys if they are small and on women, it is fine, if they can hide it and it is their own. Oh, gee, I am writing a book. LOL Hi honey!! LOL I haven't stopped by in awhile. Been busy getting ready to go in the hospital and been so behind. I WILL be back, though! Love ya!! xox
I think earrings on guys is just distracting and I'm very uncomfortable with it personally speaking. I don't let it bother me too much because of the age we live in but I won't let my sons do this.
I also think that the whole body piercing thing has gotten way out of hand in the last decade. The earrings on the face, nose, chin-- these are just awful.
Worse than this though are these baggy draggy pants with undies showing and all the hip and tummy the girls are showing. What is wrong with these people? Oh well. What can a woman do? She wants to dress nice- not too old fashioned but she wants to look fashionable, but she wants coverage in all the right places... it's hard to find stores even selling nice clothing with decent coverage. All the cute things leave a woman UNCOVERED. Why is that?! Let me tell you, fashion is easier said than done in this day and age --unless you have money to go to the really expensive clothing stores where they sell things that are bigger than my pinky finger for a lot more than $10. LOL! I for one am glad my mom taught me to sew!
